Day 10 of the San Francisco 49ers training camp is officially over and the team will head to Las Vegas for joint practices with the Raiders prior to their preseason matchup on Sunday.
It was a dominant day for the defense, who recorded a whopping ten sacks, while the 49ers' quarterbacks underwhelmed, leaving a sour taste in fans' mouths as training camp comes to an end.
Whose stock has dropped after Day 10 of training camp for the 49ers?
DE Drake Jackson
On a day where the defensive line was constantly in the backfield wreaking havoc, you wouldn't expect a "stock down" player from the position, but here we are.
After a solid start to camp, where Jackson impressed me with his blend of bend and speed, the second-year defensive end has been quiet, as his raw nature as a pass-rusher has been seen, while he struggles at times to disengage from blocks and deal with strength.
On Monday, Jackson began with the first-team defense line, but was the lone member to not really make many plays, and it appeared he injured himself at one point, as a defender was seen limping off, and Jackson wasn't implemented into the rotation for the second half of practice.
Jackson is the clear-cut favorite to start at defensive end, which the 49ers can probably afford as he develops, given their significant talent with Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, and Arik Armstead alongside him, but he hasn't been the best defensive end on the team in camp, and frankly, it isn't close.
Instead, players like Taco Charlton and Austin Bryant have stood out when they've been on the field, and even Clelin Ferrell, who has disappointed this offseason, flashed well on Monday for a successful performance.
With extended reps, let's see if Jackson can turn it around this preseason en route to a potential breakout season in 2023.
The QBs
With all three quarterbacks underwhelming on Monday, it was tough to decide on one specific player to place on the list, so the entire position group earns the nod for "stock down".
I came into training camp hoping to be blown away by one of the options at quarterback, and through 10 practices, that hasn't been the case, with all three evening out as the week continued.
Brock Purdy bounced back from a bad start, but still had up-and-down days without a true standout day, while Sam Darnold hovered around average and Trey Lance had some of the best, but also some of the worst days.
The 49ers having several "middling" quarterback performances isn't a great sign, although you expect better play and decisions as more reps come with the full first-team offense. But, there needs to be better quarterback play, and I can't say I'm confident in the plan at the position heading into the season for the time being, especially given how San Francisco handled their dilemma this offseason.
