Sam Darnold and Brandon Allen were the two quarterbacks taking most of the reps in Monday's practice. Starter Brock Purdy also threw but saw significantly fewer reps than most practices in which he has participated.
With training camp in the books, reporters can no longer observe team drills. They must leave the practice field after individual drills have been completed. Even with what they could observe, they knew it would be a lighter day for the second-year quarterback.
Sam Darnold and Brandon Allen took most of the throws during individual drills at the start of today's practice Brock Purdy looked fine on the few throws he did make. Could be a "pitch-count day" for Purdy. #49ers

Later, a 49ers representative confirmed the "pitch-count" theory, stating that Purdy's elbow hasn't had a setback. There is no need for concern.
Per #49ers, Purdy was on a pitch count in today's practice. No setback with elbow. https://t.co/viLjB9IX4G

Purdy is coming off offseason surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, an injury sustained in January's NFC Championship Game. The 49ers cleared Purdy to practice at the start of training camp. However, he was initially limited to two consecutive practices at the time.
Purdy's workload soon returned to normal, and the quarterback played in each of the 49ers' final two preseason games. He completed nine of his 14 attempts for 138 yards and a rushing touchdown.
