The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed safety Tayler Hawkins to the team's practice squad and released safety Tre Norwood. The moves come the day after the team's 22-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and ahead of its Week 8 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Hawkins (6-1, 205) originally entered the NFL in 2022 after signing with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. He was waived by the team on August 30, 2022, and re-signed to the team's practice squad the following day. He signed a Reserve/Future contract with the 49ers on January 31, 2023, and spent training camp with the team until he was placed on the Injured Reserve List on August 29, 2023.
A 25-year-old native of Palm Springs, CA, Hawkins attended San Diego State University for six years (2016-21), where he appeared in 57 games (31 starts) and registered 170 tackles, 5.0 TFLs, 22 PDs, 3 INTs, and 1 FF, earning Second-Team All-Mountain West honors during his final season.
Norwood (6-0, 194) originally signed to the team's practice squad on September 27, 2023.
