It appears that injured San Francisco 49ers defensive end Drake Jackson has recently undergone surgery. Jackson shared a post on Instagram with the caption, "I'll be back [with] a vengeance!"
Jackson has been on injured reserve since November 11 due to a knee injury. Although eligible to return, head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted that the defensive end was not close to making a comeback when asked about the possibility this week.
"I don't think he's healthy enough to come off yet," Shanahan said during a conference call on Tuesday. "I don't think that's an option right now."
This latest update likely means that Jackson's second NFL season has ended. The defensive lineman wrapped up his 2023 campaign with seven tackles, two tackles for a loss, three sacks, and a pass defensed in 199 defensive snaps over eight game appearances.
San Francisco selected Jackson as a second-round draft pick from the University of Southern California in 2022.
