Christian McCaffrey, sidelined in the San Francisco 49ers' regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams due to a calf injury, is set to make a full return as the team prepares for the Divisional Playoff matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan shared that McCaffrey will fully participate in the 49ers' Tuesday practice session, and the running back is eager to get back into action.
"I think he's geared up and ready to go, same way he was last year," Shanahan said of McCaffrey. "Probably the same way he was in his playoff game when he was five years old, too, or scrimmage that week. Christian's always the same. He's always waiting for that moment, and he's been waiting for this moment for a while."
As for the rest of the 49ers' ailing players, Shanahan revealed that defensive end Clelin Ferrell (knee), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles tendinitis), and safety Logan Ryan (groin) won't practice. Defensive tackle Arik Armstead (foot, knee) and safety George Odum will be limited participants.
Shanahan expressed optimism about Ryan's return, stating that the safety should be able to practice on Wednesday.
Odum remains on the injured reserve list, attempting to return from a torn biceps. The coach believes the safety could be activated ahead of Saturday's game.
Regarding Greenlaw, Shanahan stated, "He'll be able to go tomorrow. We just pushed him hard yesterday, so we want to take a day off before we push him again."
