Jimmy Garoppolo's post-San Francisco 49ers tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders did not last long. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the quarterback has been suspended for two games due to a violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Additionally, Schefter notes that the Raiders are likely to release Garoppolo.

Last offseason, Las Vegas inked Garoppolo to a three-year, $67.5 million contract, reuniting him with then-head coach Josh McDaniels. However, the Raiders fired McDaniels on October 31, 2023.

Regarding the suspension, Schefter reports, "The policy violation is said to be related to Garoppolo using a prescribed medication without having a valid therapeutic use exemption from the league, according to sources."

Garoppolo, 32, reportedly has chosen not to appeal the suspension. With a $11.25 million roster bonus slated for next month, his release will likely come before then. Moreover, adding financial flexibility for the Raiders, Garoppolo's $11.25 million base salary for 2024 is voided because of the suspension. The team had an out on his contract after the 2024 season, making moving on from the initial three-year deal easy.

Garoppolo started his career with the New England Patriots before being traded to the 49ers in 2017. After signing with the Raiders, he appeared in seven games, passing for 1,205 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.
