According to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, former Jacksonville Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins plans to visit the San Francisco 49ers following a visit with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Jaguars released Jenkins on March 5, making him immediately available to sign with any team.

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Jenkins (6-1, 200) in the fourth round (No. 113 overall) out of Miami (FL) in 2017. Last season, he amassed 101 tackles, seven tackles for loss, a quarterback hit, a sack, nine passes defensed, and two interceptions while starting all 17 games, per Pro Football Reference. He has started 17 games in each of the last two seasons.

In 2023, Jenkins allowed 33 receptions for 366 yards and a touchdown on 54 targets, with opposing quarterbacks posting a 72.0 passer rating when throwing in his direction.

49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga is recovering from a torn ACL, while Tashaun Gipson is slated to become a free agent. Ji'Ayir Brown started five regular-season and two playoff games last season in place of the injured Hufanga.

Jenkins, 30, has accumulated 464 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, 33 passes defensed, 10 interceptions, and a touchdown in 109 game appearances, including 80 starts, over his seven NFL seasons with the Chargers and Jaguars.

An Arsenal of Weapons: The 49ers Have Quietly Become Even More Dangerous on Offense in 2024

By Don Atkinson
May 13

It's not a shock to anyone who looks back at the past two NFL seasons to contemplate that the San Francisco 49ers' offense has finally stepped out of the shadow cast by the team's ever-imposing defense. Since their 2019 Super Bowl run, players like Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, and former 49ers Richard Sherman and Jimmie Ward have garnered most of the attention when talking about the team.
