The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed wide receiver Malik Turner to a one-year deal. To make room on the roster, the team has placed tackle Trent Williams on the reserve/did not report list.
With no guaranteed money left on his deal, Williams is holding out for a restructured contract and did not report to training camp with the rest of his teammates.
"It was something I knew could be a possibility," head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday. "I mean, I was hoping that he would be here, but I knew it could be a possibility, and I feel pretty confident that it'll all work out in the long run, and he'll be here, and we'll get on the same page with everything. But it's just one day of practice, and I think Trent will be all right missing a few practices."
The 49ers Communications team provided the following rundown.
Turner (6-2, 202) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on July 29, 2018. Throughout his five-year career with the Seahawks (2018-19), Dallas Cowboys (2020-21) and San Francisco 49ers (2022) he has appeared in 44 games (three starts) and registered 29 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns. Turner appeared in three games with the 49ers in 2022. He then spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans practice squads and spent the 2023 training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.
A 28-year-old native of Springfield, IL, Turner attended the University of Illinois where he appeared in 46 games (35 starts) and registered 143 receptions for 1,804 yards and 10 touchdowns.
