The San Francisco 49ers feature a roster brimming with talented veterans and promising young players still making a name for themselves. However, the team wasn't well-represented in Nick Shook's "NFL All-Under-25 Team," a feature for NFL.com. This lack of representation isn't surprising, as many of the 49ers' standout stars have aged out of eligibility for the list.

One player who did make the roster is All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga.

"You may have forgotten about Hufanga, who tore his ACL in Week 11 and receded into the shadows as the 49ers mounted a run to Super Bowl LVIII. I didn't forget, though," Shook wrote.

Hufanga is expected to play a crucial role in the 49ers' Super Bowl push this season. While he has yet to return to the practice field, he hopes to participate in training camp activities soon. The 24-year-old safety aims to be fully ready for the start of the regular season.

"The goal is to be ready by Week 1," Hufanga told reporters in June. "The goal is to be in training camp, not at the very beginning, but to ramp me up correctly, just so it's not throw you out there to the wolves and good luck. But trying to be smart with it."

Last season, then-rookie Ji'Ayir Brown stepped in for Hufanga. While he played well for the team, the defense missed the physicality and instincts of their All-Pro safety.

"Hufanga plays like a heat-seeking missile with a natural nose for the ball," Shook wrote. "Because of his injury, his 2023 numbers don't accurately reflect who he is as a player, but if he can return healthy in 2024, expect for him to repeatedly remind you of his All-Pro talent."

Hufanga could bolster a 49ers defense that is eager to rebound from a heartbreaking Super Bowl defeat and determined to secure a championship this season.
