Deommodore Lenoir is excited about the upcoming season, recognizing the immense talent on the San Francisco 49ers defense. The former fifth-round draft pick is entering his fourth NFL season and has developed into one of the team's top cornerbacks.

With pads coming on this week during training camp, Lenoir has already intercepted quarterback Brock Purdy twice, showcasing his potential impact in 2024.

In addition to Lenoir, the 49ers boast a strong cornerback group that includes Charvarius Ward, Isaac Yiadom, Samuel Womack, Darrell Luter, and rookie Renardo Green. Lenoir joined KNBR on Tuesday morning to discuss the cornerback depth.

"I feel like, [since I came] in my rookie year, this is the most talent we had as a whole in the secondary, I believe," Lenoir said. "With just all the guys we have, and people being able to do multiple things, play two positions, it's crazy. It's gonna be tough decisions between all these guys because everybody in the room is talented."

Lenoir also believes the 49ers have a secret weapon this season. In addition to appointing Nick Sorensen as the new defensive coordinator, the team brought in former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley as the assistant head coach. Staley has been working extensively with the defense this offseason.

"He's a genius," Lenoir declared. "It's like having Kyle on defense."

Lenoir refers to head coach Kyle Shanahan, widely considered one of the brightest minds in football and the 49ers' offensive play-caller. Opposing teams should be concerned if the 49ers have found a Shanahan-type mind to help on the defensive side of the ball.

"Just the knowledge that he (Staley) brings to the room and how much guys respect him, respect his word when he speaks, it's a blessing for him to be here with us."

Lenoir reiterated his "genius" statement after Tuesday's practice while speaking to reporters.

"I really respect him as a coach, as a person," Lenoir added during the press conference. "The joy he brings to our room, with just the knowledge of teaching us so many things, it's a blessing to have him here."

When asked about specific things he has learned from Staley, Lenoir responded, "Playing the angles of football and playing the percentages. He kind of told me the percentages of you getting a fade every down is less likely, so why would you play that with the start of the downs? 'So actually think when you out there. You already got the talent. Use your brain, and the plays will come.'"

Lenoir's development and insights into the new coaching influence could give the defense the boost needed to finally achieve Super Bowl glory.
