49ers’ Brock Purdy reiterates focus: My mindset is on winning now, not a future contract

Brock Purdy continues to face questions about his impending mega-contract, which, following the 2024 season, is expected to make him one of the NFL's highest-paid players of all time. Despite the speculation, Purdy remains focused on the present, prioritizing the upcoming season and his goal of helping the San Francisco 49ers win a championship.

Purdy acknowledged that he is aware of the massive deals signed by other quarterbacks, with some predicting that his future contract could reach—or even exceed—$60 million annually.

"Guys talk about it within the locker room and stuff, and so we all end up hearing about it," Purdy told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. "But for me, that's so far down the road with my situation. And for me, I've got to be present right now, right here at camp. I've got to be better and grow right now so that I can be the best I can be for this team this year."

Purdy is coming off an impressive 2023 campaign, where he set a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards and led all NFL quarterbacks with a 113.0 passer rating. Although the 49ers reached the Super Bowl, they fell just short of winning the organization's sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Purdy and the 49ers hope 2024 will be different.

"Obviously, we have a goal at hand, going all the way, and winning, and finishing it," Purdy continued. "So that's where my mindset's at. To be caught up in the money and the stats, all that kind of stuff down the road, I'd be wrong if that's where my mindset was at, and so it's not."
