Quick notes

San Francisco has signed veteran wide receiver Robbie Chosen, although the team has not yet made an official announcement. The 49ers also added former Lions safety Tracy Walker to their roster.

With several players sitting out, the 49ers had a lighter practice, their last before the preseason opener on Saturday against the Tennessee Titans.

Nick Wagoner of ESPN reported that Brock Purdy had a strong session, throwing no interceptions. "He and TE George Kittle seemed to be in sync with Purdy hitting him for sizable gains on multiple occasions. Purdy and FB Kyle Juzczyk also connected for a big gain," Wagoner wrote.

Matt Barrows of The Athletic logged Purdy as completing 9-of-12 passes during team drills, noting, "Purdy's best throw was a bullet to the sideline to Jauan Jennings just in front of safety Ji'Ayir Brown, who was closing in quickly on the play."

After practice, Brown praised his quarterback, saying, "Brock is one of those guys—he's sharp. He's very sharp. He's gonna make plays. He's gonna fit the ball into tight spots, and you can do nothing but just tilt your hat to him. He's one of those guys."

Right tackle Colton McKivitz and linebacker Jalen Graham were involved in a brief scuffle, but the situation was quickly diffused. Wagoner reported that Graham was removed from practice following the incident.

Defensive lineman Robert Beal Jr. recorded two would-be quarterback sacks, one against Brandon Allen and the other against Tanner Mordecai.

"Veteran defensive lineman Leonard Floyd stood out as one of the faster players in one-on-ones Thursday," wrote Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area.

When asked about Floyd this week, defensive end Nick Bosa remarked, "He's pretty built. He's about 245 [pounds], shredded, probably like five percent body fat and he can run. So I think he'll be just fine in this scheme and he's proved that he could rush the passer. So, it's good to have him."

Chan added that Floyd was seen "harassing" Purdy multiple times in practice, indicating that the defensive end could be a valuable contributor this season.

Several reporters noted Fred Warner's presence, even though the star linebacker wasn't practicing due to foot irritation. Warner could be heard calling out plays that the offense seemed to be setting up and encouraging his defensive teammates. His presence was especially noticeable due to the lack of fans in attendance, as the 49ers have no more open practices scheduled.

Rookie Renardo Green continues to receive significant practice reps with other cornerbacks sidelined. He has been working both outside and inside, and Barrows reported that the first-year cornerback had "tight coverage" on a deep throw from Purdy to wide receiver Frank Darby. Later, he broke up a sideline pass intended for tight end Brayden Willis, nearly coming away with an interception. Green could contribute more this season than initially expected.

Brown and George Odum continue to work as the 49ers' starting safeties. The team is expected to evaluate Talanoa Hufanga in Southern California during joint practices with the New Orleans Saints next week. Hufanga is attempting to return from the ACL injury he suffered in November 2023 and hopes to be suited up for Week 1's contest against the New York Jets.

Rookie Malik Mustapha had no lingering effects after limping off the practice field on Wednesday (he returned). He nearly intercepted a pass from quarterback Josh Dobbs that was intended for Willis but still broke up the play. Mustapha later collided with tight end Jake Tonges, but both players appeared to be fine.

Kicker Jake Moody connected on all three of his field-goal attempts (from 33, 38, and 43 yards out).

Injury updates

Fortunately, there is nothing noteworthy to report.

Next practice

Next week's practice schedule will be released after Saturday's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.
