According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an agreement on a potential trade for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Additionally, the Steelers are reportedly "in a good place" regarding a new contract for Aiyuk.
"If SF gives the final sign-off, it's done," Rapoport wrote on social media.
This leaves the ball in Aiyuk's court. The decision now rests with him: Does he want to join the Steelers, a team he's favored in trade discussions, or stay with the 49ers on what is believed to be a lower-value contract while competing for a Super Bowl?
Rapoport also noted that the 49ers have made an offer to keep Aiyuk in red and gold, but the receiver has yet to accept it.
Update on Brandon Aiyuk: -- The Steelers and #49ers have a deal on a potential trade and PIT is in a good place on an Aiyuk contract, sources say. As the situation between the 49ers and Aiyuk nears a resolution, Aiyuk must decide what is best for his long-term future. It appears the choice has come down to either the 49ers or the Steelers.
Aiyuk previously turned down potential deals with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, as he was not interested in playing for either organization. However, the Steelers have long been one of his preferred trade destinations.
Aiyuk requested a trade before reporting to training camp and has held out of practices amid the ongoing contract standoff with San Francisco.
