There was once speculation about whether Davante Adams might join the San Francisco 49ers in a trade involving the disgruntled Brandon Aiyuk. It turns out the 49ers did approach the Raiders about a wide receiver—just not Adams.

According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers inquired about sixth-year veteran Jakobi Meyers, who recorded 807 yards and eight touchdowns on 71 receptions last season.

"The Raiders rebuffed San Francisco's overtures for [Meyers]," Silver reported.

In the end, it didn't matter. Although the process was frustrating, the 49ers got Aiyuk to sign their offered contract extension, with the threat of a trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers looming. Aiyuk, preferring to stay with the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2020 draft, finally agreed to a four-year, $120 million deal to remain with the 49ers.

Aiyuk suited up on Monday night against the New York Jets, managing just two catches for 28 yards on five targets—a performance that fell short of what the newly highly-paid wideout had hoped for.

"I think after the game, I didn't watch the film until this morning," Aiyuk told reporters on Wednesday. "I was a little bit scared to watch it, but not as bad as I thought."

Aiyuk is eager to bounce back and put up better numbers against the Minnesota Vikings this weekend.
