San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters via a Monday conference call, addressing the recent news that running back Christian McCaffrey is dealing with bilateral Achilles tendinitis.
Shanahan clarified that this isn't a new development.
"During the time, he's had it in both," Shanahan explained. "I think it started in one. You get to overcompensate it, went to the other. But mainly, one of them has just been bothering him. But he's had it in both."
McCaffrey recently traveled to Germany to treat his Achilles tendinitis. However, Shanahan has remained tight-lipped about the specifics, and Monday's call was no different.
When asked if he had spoken to McCaffrey about how he's feeling after the treatment, Shanahan simply replied, "No, I haven't."
Previously, Shanahan mentioned that the 49ers plan to ramp up McCaffrey's rehab this week, starting as early as Monday, to assess his progress in recovery.
McCaffrey, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, has been on injured reserve since September 14 and has yet to play this season. While he is eligible to return ahead of the 49ers' Week 6 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, it remains uncertain when he will be ready to step back onto the field.
