Defensive tackle Kalia Davis, who has been on injured reserve since August 27 after undergoing knee surgery, had his practice window opened by the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday. This move gives the team 21 days to activate him from the injury list.

"He is close," Shanahan said of Davis on Monday. "There's a good chance we open his window this week. I'd be surprised if it's not open for Wednesday's practice."

Meanwhile, rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who remains on the non-football injury (NFI) list, did not have his practice window opened. Pearsall is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest sustained during a robbery attempt on August 31.

When asked on Monday about Pearsall's status, head coach Kyle Shanahan stated, "We haven't decided yet. We're going to need to think about it here today and tomorrow. But no, we haven't decided that yet."

Davis could help strengthen a defensive line that recently lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for the season due to a partially torn triceps. Additionally, defensive tackle Jordan Elliott is considered day-to-day this week after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

The 49ers hope Davis, a sixth-round pick by the team in 2022, can make a significant impact upon his return.

Additionally, the 49ers announced they have signed defensive lineman Jonathan Garvin and wide receiver Terique Owens to the practice squad, while releasing defensive lineman Shakel Brown from the practice squad.

The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.

Garvin (6-4, 257) was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round (242nd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Throughout his three-year NFL career with the Packers (2020-22), Garvin appeared in 38 games (one start) and registered 32 tackles, two passes defensed and 1.5 sacks. Following his release from the Packers on July 28, 2023, Garvin spent time with the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL) where he registered 19 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Garvin signed with the 49ers on August 9, 2024 and was released by the team on September 10.

A 25-year-old native of Lake Worth Beach, FL, Garvin attended the University of Miami (2017-19), where he appeared in 38 games (24 starts) and registered 106 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, five passes defensed and four forced fumbles.
Owens (6-3, 200) originally signed with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 6, 2024 and was released on August 15.

A 25-year-old native of Pleasanton, CA, Owens attended Contra Costa (CA) Community College (2018) and Florida Atlantic (2019-20) before transferring to Missouri State (2021-23) where he appeared in 38 games (two starts) and registered 61 receptions for 1,071 yards and six touchdowns.

Brown (6-3, 295) originally signed to the practice squad on September 25, 2024.
