The San Francisco 49ers have announced the promotion of tight end Brayden Willis to the active roster from the practice squad.
In a corresponding move, the team placed safety Talanoa Hufanga on injured reserve, a decision anticipated after he tore ligaments in his wrist during Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Hufanga is expected to miss at least a month.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Willis (6-4, 240) was initially drafted by the 49ers in the seventh round (247th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. Throughout his NFL career with the 49ers (2023-24), he has appeared in eight regular-season games and three postseason contests, during which he recorded one special team tackle. Willis was released by the team on August 27, 2024, and signed to the team's practice squad on August 28.
A 24-year-old native of Arlington, TX, Willis attended the University of Oklahoma (2018-22), where he appeared in 58 games (25 starts) and totaled 75 receptions for 998 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Hufanga (6-0, 200) has registered eight tackles this season.
