Rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, currently on the non-football injury (NFI) list, is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest sustained during a robbery attempt on August 31. On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers opened his practice window, allowing the team 21 days to activate him from the injury list.

"Ricky's doing great. He really is," general manager John Lynch said in a recent interview. "Really proud of the young man and how he's handled everything. It's tough for Ricky not to be out there on that field."

The 49ers selected Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in April's draft, and he impressed during the offseason until a shoulder injury temporarily sidelined him.

Pearsall appeared on track to be ready for the regular season before the shocking incident occurred in Union Square, a busy commercial area in San Francisco, where he was shopping for luggage for the season's road trips.

Fortunately, Pearsall has made a remarkable recovery and is on track to contribute this season.

Pearsall played two seasons at Florida after transferring from Arizona State, where he spent three seasons. In his final collegiate campaign, he amassed 65 receptions for 965 yards and four touchdowns—displaying the potential that ultimately led the 49ers to select him in the first round of the draft.

The 49ers are holding a bonus practice on Monday, followed by three more sessions this week as they prepare for their Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
