San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided a brief update on running back Christian McCaffrey ahead of Wednesday's practice. McCaffrey, who has yet to play this season due to Achilles tendinitis, remains on injured reserve. However, reports suggest his return may be imminent.

Shanahan confirmed that McCaffrey's practice window would not open this week, ruling him out for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. However, a return during the team's bye week appears likely.

"It's not this week, so hopefully, it will be next week," Shanahan said regarding McCaffrey's potential return.

McCaffrey is one of 10 49ers currently on injured reserve, with the latest addition being wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who suffered a torn ACL and MCL during Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. A healthy McCaffrey would provide a significant boost to a 49ers offense that has struggled, as the team has fallen to 3-4 on the season.

If McCaffrey returns during the bye week, he could be back on the field for the 49ers' game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, November 10, at Raymond James Stadium.

On Monday, when asked about his recovering running back, Shanahan said, "Christian is still progressing through his rehab. He hasn't had any setbacks, so it's been all good news so far."
