Deommodore Lenoir expects 49ers QB Brock Purdy to ‘break the bank’

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is on track to become one of the highest-paid players in NFL history, with some predicting he could even take the top spot. The 49ers have benefited from Purdy's minimal salary cap hit due to his rookie contract and being the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, that will change in the coming years.

Cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, who faces off against Purdy every day in practice, expects his quarterback to earn a significant payday when the time comes. The 49ers are preparing to host the Dallas Cowboys, who have their own high-paid quarterback in Dak Prescott, currently the league's top earner at $60 million per year.

When asked about going up against such a high-salaried player, Lenoir seemed taken aback by Prescott's earnings but quickly acknowledged Prescott's value.

"That's a big contract for him," Lenoir remarked. "I like that. I love that for him. But I practice against a $60 million quarterback, too. Yeah, he just ain't been paid yet. He's gonna break the bank. Shout out to Brock."

Purdy is coming off one of his roughest games as a starter, having thrown three interceptions in the 49ers' disappointing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the setback, his standing within the organization remains strong.

"It happened to Joe Montana. I'm sure he played bad games," general manager John Lynch said Friday morning. "That's hard to remember because he did so many great things. But Brock's done a lot of really good things, and we've got a ton of belief, and as much belief that after a bad one, he's going to bounce back and play well.

"He's a confident kid. He's always going to get himself ready to play, and he'll go execute for us. We've got all the belief in the world that he will. I have all the belief in the world that he will."

As for Sunday's showdown with Prescott, Lenoir shared his respect for the Cowboys quarterback, saying, "I feel like he's a great quarterback for what he's done in this league, for all the games he's won, games he's played in. He's got a lot of experience, so it's going to be a very good matchup for us."
