San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall hasn't had much time to build chemistry with quarterback Brock Purdy. Pearsall only recently returned to the practice field after missing significant time due to an August incident in which he was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt.
Pearsall has played in the last two games and is gradually working his way into a more prominent role on offense. He has caught seven passes for 59 yards on nine targets and is still seeking his first NFL touchdown. He believes that milestone will come as his rapport with Purdy develops.
"It's getting better and better each practice," Pearsall said Thursday regarding his chemistry with Purdy. "The more reps we get in, the better timing our stuff's gonna get. You can kind of see it after weeks of practices, and then, it's just going to keep improving."
Pearsall didn't have a definitive answer when asked how long it typically takes for a quarterback and receiver to find a rhythm.
"I think it's just more getting the feel of each other," Pearsall explained. "I'm in a unique situation where I missed training camp and the first few weeks, so just trying to make up for that time that we lost."
Pearsall has no shortage of confidence, leaving little doubt in his mind that the production will eventually come.
"I look at myself as a big playmaker," Pearsall commented. "So, when those opportunities come up, go out there and execute the play and create an impact on the game."
He acknowledged feeling more comfortable in his second game than his NFL debut, which bodes well for his development in the second half of the season.
"I think I was moving faster, being in the system a little bit longer and having some practices under my belt," Pearsall shared. "So I think that's just going to continue to improve. I'm going to continue to get faster and faster and continue to get more comfortable out there."
