According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, the San Francisco 49ers are signing former New York Giants cornerback Nick McCloud to their practice squad. The Giants waived McCloud on November 5 after he declined to take a pay cut. The veteran cornerback started five games for New York this season.

Rookie cornerback Renardo Green exited Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a toe injury. Green made his first NFL start as Charvarius Ward remained away from the team following the tragic passing of his daughter.

McCloud (6-1, 193) was initially signed as an undrafted free agent by the Buffalo Bills out of Notre Dame in 2021. So far in 2024, he has recorded 14 tackles, including one tackle for a loss, and a pass defensed through seven games (five starts) with the Giants, playing 41 percent of the defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference.

The 26-year-old McCloud has tallied 85 tackles, including three for a loss, two quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, 10 passes defensed, one interception, and three forced fumbles over 40 career games (16 starts) with the Cincinnati Bengals and Giants.
