While the status of quarterback Brock Purdy has dominated headlines, injuries to tackle Trent Williams and defensive end Nick Bosa remain crucial storylines as the San Francisco 49ers prepare for their Week 12 matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

On Friday morning, general manager John Lynch joined Bay Area radio station KNBR to provide updates on the two star players, in addition to sharing news on Purdy.

Nick Bosa

Bosa exited late in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a hip and oblique injury, a new issue unrelated to the hip problem he had been managing in recent weeks.

"I thought Nick made an incredible jump," Lynch shared. "He had the [hip] issue. He worked through it. It got better to where, on Friday, he was able to practice. He was really playing a good game. He was getting after [Seahawks QB] Geno [Smith]. And ironically, he did it sacking Geno, you know.

"I saw the same thing you did. I'm hoping, looking down on the sidelines, that maybe he just tweaked it, and he'll be all right. But instead, it was worse than that. And same thing—when I saw him taking the tape off, I'm saying, 'Dang it, that's not good.'"

Lynch added that Bosa is a game-changing player. However, he expressed confidence in the depth of the defensive line, should Bosa be unable to suit up on Sunday.

Trent Williams

Williams entered Sunday's game with an ankle injury, and no one was sure if he could play until about 90 minutes before kickoff. However, Williams toughed through his injury and lined up with his teammates against the Seahawks.

"Trent gutted it out," Lynch said. "Trent's a really, aside from being just a really special and unique player, from his talents to his will and all that, he's really tough. And I think anytime you see a player who doesn't get on the practice field, really, other than walk-throughs, and then goes and plays, and plays the way he played, it just kind of typifies who Trent Williams is.

"Sometimes you do that, and you come out, and you're like, 'Dang, all right, I made it through, and I came out of the game actually better.' And that's what you hope for. I don't think that's what we got. He hasn't been on the practice field yet this week, and we'll see where that goes.

"Like [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] said, he's a guy you wait all the way down to the kickoff. You understand, and you make sure, with the medical experts, we're not making this worse. And you allow it to go all the way down. And so now, we get on the flight today, and we'll see. We'll see if he can get out there today, if he can improve throughout, down until Sunday."

Lynch acknowledged that if Bosa or Williams can't play, the team must step up in their absence and find a way to earn a much-needed win this weekend.
