The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 18 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
The San Francisco 49ers' list of players who did not participate in Wednesday's practice is extensive. Head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the unusually long list, explaining the reasons behind it.
"We're only a day removed, so I think that's why there's a lot more on there than usual," Shanahan said. "But yeah, with it being a short week, and where we're at here, being the last game of the season, we're not going to ask guys to play through some injuries and stuff like that."
As expected, quarterback Brock Purdy was among the non-participants after suffering a right elbow contusion with nerve inflammation during Monday night's game against the Detroit Lions. Shanahan has already announced that Josh Dobbs will start at quarterback against the Cardinals.
However, the injury report had some unexpected names, including wide receiver Deebo Samuel, tight end George Kittle, and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir.
"I mean, none of these are too serious," Shanahan noted. "Some are more serious than others. So hopefully, these guys feel better as the week goes and can get in practice tomorrow."
Interestingly, although Kittle is listed as a non-participant, several reporters observed him on the practice field during the portion open to the media.
