The San Francisco 49ers continue searching for a replacement for recently fired special teams coordinator Brian Schneider. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team has interviewed former Carolina Panthers coach Chris Tabor for the position.

Tabor, who most recently served as the Panthers' interim head coach in 2023, brings extensive experience as a special teams coordinator. He held this role with the Panthers (2022-2023), Chicago Bears (2018-2021), and Cleveland Browns (2011-2017).
Tabor began his NFL coaching career as the assistant special teams coach with the Bears from 2008 to 2010. Before that, he held various coaching positions in the collegiate ranks, including managing the special teams for Missouri, Utah State, and Western Michigan.
In addition to Tabor, the 49ers have interviewed Detroit Lions assistant special teams coordinator Jett Modkins and Denver Broncos assistant special teams coordinator Chris Banjo for the role.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan also mentioned that former 49ers defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen, who served as the Jacksonville Jaguars' special teams coordinator in 2021, will have an opportunity to interview for the position.
