The 49ers are coming off a disappointing 6-11 season, finishing last in the NFC West and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Adding Crosby to their defensive lineup would provide the perfect complement to star defensive end Nick Bosa, addressing the team's need for another elite pass rusher.
While Crosby remains under contract with the Raiders through the 2026 season, uncertainty surrounds his future in Las Vegas. The team is undergoing significant changes, including searching for a new head coach and general manager.
Though Crosby has expressed his love for the Raiders, he recently acknowledged during an appearance on NFL Network's Good Morning Football that his future with the team is far from certain—as is the case with anything in the NFL.
"The fan base is rabid, and they love football," Crosby said of the Raiders. "They will do anything, they put their whole life into it."
However, the two-time second-team All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler hinted that discussions about his contract situation may be on the horizon.
"I have been with the Raiders for six years," Crosby said. "I am currently under contract, but I think you know, I talked about it before, I have no guaranteed money left. There are a lot of things that need to be discussed, we are going to do that."
Crosby has proven to be a formidable defensive force, recording at least seven sacks in each of his six NFL seasons and reaching double digits three times. Despite playing through an ankle injury that eventually cut his 2024 season short, Crosby still managed 7.5 sacks in 12 games, bringing his career total to 59.5.
Lenoir recognizes that adding Maxx Crosby could be a game-changer for the 49ers as they aim to rebound and return to championship form in 2025. However, whether such a move is realistic will depend on the offseason developments in Las Vegas.
