The San Francisco 49ers have signed safety Quindell Johnson to a reserve/future contract.
Reserve/future contracts are used to claim the rights to players. They take effect at the start of the new league year on March 12, and that's when the players begin counting against the salary cap.
Johnson (6-2, 208) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Los Angeles Rams on May 1, 2023. Over his two-year NFL career with the Rams (2023-24) and the Chicago Bears (2023-24), he appeared in nine games, recording two tackles, one interception, and one pass defended.
After spending training camp with the Bears in 2024, the team signed Johnson to its practice squad on August 28, 2024, but was released the following day. On September 18, 2024, he joined the Rams' practice squad, where he remained for the rest of the season.
A 25-year-old native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Johnson played college football at Memphis University (2018-22). During his collegiate career, he appeared in 49 games, amassing 320 tackles, 34 passes defended, 10 interceptions, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one sack. Johnson's impressive senior season in 2022 earned him first-team All-AAC honors.
