The San Francisco 49ers' top offseason priority is securing a contract extension for Brock Purdy. The quarterback is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is now eligible for a well-earned payday after being one of the NFL's best bargains since the 49ers selected him with the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Purdy's value has been a hot topic of debate. Many believe the 25-year-old has performed well enough to warrant a top-tier salary. After all, he helped guide the 49ers to two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl appearance in his first two seasons.
While Purdy set a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards in 2023, his production dipped in 2024 as the 49ers endured an injury-plagued, mistake-ridden season. San Francisco finished 6-11, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Purdy ended the season with 3,864 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating—all declines from his previous year.
Some question whether Purdy's inability to carry the team through adversity in 2024 should impact his value. Should he become one of the highest-paid players in NFL history?
To gauge fan sentiment, we posed this question on social media, allowing The Faithful to weigh in on how much Purdy should earn annually. For context, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott earns an NFL-leading $60 million annually. Purdy earning $53.1 million annually would make him a top-5-paid player. An annual salary of $46.1 million or more would place him in the top 10, while $40 million annually would earn a top-15 placement.
An overwhelming 49% of fans believe Purdy deserves an annual salary in the $50 million range. Fewer than 30% support a deal in the $40 million range; even fewer believe he should earn top-dollar—$60 million or more annually.
The smallest percentage of fans think he should make less than $40 million annually.

Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard recently reported that the 49ers are confident their negotiations with Brock Purdy won't drag out like some past contract talks.
"I heard from a plugged-in NFL source this week that the 49ers and Purdy's camp are, indeed, feeling like there won't be fireworks on the way to an eventual deal," Kawakami wrote. "But I've also heard generally that the framework might be a little different than some other recent QB deals."

Over three seasons, Purdy has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. Additionally, in six postseason appearances, he has passed for 1,343 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception.
"Brock is the leader of our team," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the season. "I've loved these three years with Brock. I plan on being with Brock here the whole time I'm here. Brock's been a stud. He's a guy I've got a lot of confidence in, just as a human. But it starts with what he's done on the field these last two and a half years.
"And we're capable of winning a Super Bowl with him. We just almost did. And I know he's capable of getting the Niners a Super Bowl in the future."
Fans had plenty to say about Purdy's impending earnings. Below are some of their reactions.

Purdy will get $ 61 million. But his cap hit for 2025 will only be around $15 million.
