The past six months of Brandon Aiyuk's life have been memorable. After signing a new four-year contract extension worth $120 million ($76 million guaranteed) in August, the San Francisco 49ers' star wide receiver got off to a slow start, catching only 25 passes for 374 yards (and no touchdowns) in seven games. Then, a devasting knee injury ended his season in a week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
If that wasn't enough, Aiyuk was recently pulled over by a police officer who was suspicious that the former All-Pro receiver had stolen his brand-new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, an SUV that sells for around $90,000. Aiyuk, who recorded the entire event, said in the video, "Brand new Trackhawk, Bro. I got the Trackhawk at 53 miles and got pulled over at 55 miles. I can't make this up."
In the video, the officer tells Aiyuk he was pulled over for driving an unregistered car, mentioning that Aiyuk had previously been cited for driving an unregistered Dodge Charger. But Aiyuk argued that the Charger was brand new, just like the Trackhawk.
The officer suggested that the vehicles Aiyuk has been driving are commonly stolen makes and models. However, the San Francisco receiver argued that the car wasn't registered as stolen and that there was no reason for him to be pulled over as he isn't the kind of person who needs to steal cars. The officer admitted he doesn't watch football and wasn't aware of Aiyuk's financial situation.
Aiyuk defended himself, telling the officer that nothing suggests he stole the car. The officer responded that he pulled the NFL player over because of how it looked. However, everything checked out, and Aiyuk was free to go, having done nothing wrong.
In the end, Aiyuk joked with the officer, "You want me to pop the hood, too? Do you want to see what's under the hood? You want to see what's under the hood." Before pulling away, Aiyuk revved the engine and, while leaving, added, "I say, 'You try to hear it?' He said, 'Hell, yeah! Go for it.'"
