The San Francisco 49ers are among the teams reportedly showing interest in quarterback Jameis Winston for a potential backup role, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.
I'm told the #49ers and the #Chargers have been in conversation with Jameis Winston for potential back up roles, per league source.

Winston has been in the NFL since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made him the first overall pick out of Florida State in the 2015 NFL Draft. After his time with the Buccaneers, he played for the New Orleans Saints from 2020 to 2023. Last season, Winston joined the Cleveland Browns, where he completed 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
In 10 NFL seasons, Winston has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 24,225 yards with 154 touchdowns and 111 interceptions. His most notable season came in 2019 with the Buccaneers when he passed for a league-high 5,109 yards and 33 touchdowns. However, he also tossed a league-high 30 interceptions that year.
Brock Purdy's backup quarterbacks from last season—Brandon Allen and Joshua Dobbs—are set to become free agents on Wednesday. The team also had rookie Tanner Mordecai on the practice squad.
