The San Francisco 49ers' roster overhaul continues with the release of long snapper Taybor Pepper, ending his five-season tenure with the team. This move, confirmed by Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area, is part of the team's offseason adjustments to its roster.
Pepper, 30, has been a steady presence on the field, playing in every game since the 2021 season. He originally joined the 49ers on September 30, 2020, and was rewarded with a two-year extension in 2021. In 2023, he signed a three-year extension, which would have kept him under contract for the upcoming season.
The 49ers will save $1.3 million in cap space by releasing Pepper, per OverTheCap.com.
After going undrafted in 2016 and sitting out the ensuing NFL season, the Green Bay Packers signed Pepper to a reserve/futures contract in 2017. He spent the 2019 season with the Miami Dolphins before joining the 49ers.
