Former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles is signing with the New York Giants, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The 49ers released the veteran linebacker on February 18.
Flannigan-Fowles (6-2, 223) signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Arizona, transitioning from safety to linebacker. He ended up on the team's practice squad before signing a futures/reserve contract in 2020 and becoming a key contributor on special teams.
In 2024, Flannigan-Fowles appeared in 12 games (three starts), registering 17 tackles, including one for a loss, two passes defensed, and an interception while playing 20 percent of the defensive snaps, per Pro Football Reference. His season ended early after being placed on injured reserve on December 10.
Over five NFL seasons, Flannigan-Fowles has played in 73 games (seven starts), amassing 96 tackles (six for a loss), a sack, a quarterback hit, three passes defensed, and one interception.
Flannigan-Fowles, 28, was a standout safety at the University of Arizona, starting 36 games for the Wildcats and finishing his college career with 243 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, and six interceptions.
