Russell Wilson's time with the Pittsburgh Steelers lasted just one season. The veteran quarterback, a longtime nemesis of the San Francisco 49ers, is reportedly signing a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the New York Giants, which could rise to $21 million with incentives.
The 49ers, coincidentally, are scheduled to face Wilson and his new team at MetLife Stadium in 2025.
The Giants are coming off a dismal 2024 season, managing just three wins. Meanwhile, the 49ers, hampered by injuries, fared only slightly better, finishing last in the NFC West with a 6-11 record.
Wilson, 36, is 17-4 over his career against the 49ers. His last matchup against San Francisco came in 2022, his first season with the Denver Broncos after a decade with the Seattle Seahawks. The quarterback has won his last five meetings against the 49ers, dating back to 2020.
Last season, Wilson started 11 games for the Steelers, completing 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. A 10-time Pro Bowler, he also led the Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.
The Giants' quarterback room also includes Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito. San Francisco had previously shown interest in Winston before signing Mac Jones as Brock Purdy's backup.
