Even with the DeForest Buckner acquisition and trade speculation running rampant, the San Francisco 49ers have officially reached their bye week. Week 7 against Atlanta featured plenty of competition and intensity, but ultimately ended in frustration as four turnovers doomed the 49ers to their first loss of the season.
The 49ers' main goal is to settle into more rest, rehab, and recovery for the many players down or still on injured reserve. Despite an impressive record, injuries have been the theme this season, but overall player performance has been stellar for most, subpar for some, and shaky for a few.
Here's a quick word on every player so far.
Tatum Bethune - Warner and Greenlaw being healthy has relegated him to a backup role.
Kaelon Black - Has more than held his own as McCaffrey's backup.
Nick Bosa - Still a game wrecker, but hasn't been healthy enough the last two seasons.
Jake Brendel - More than respectable so far in run blocking and pass blocking.
Ji'Ayir Brown - The tackling and coverage have been consistent, just not the playmaking.
Connor Colby - The penalties and pressures allowed are concerning.
Brandin Cooks - Likely to be buried on the depth chart or cut when the wide receivers get healthy.
Jacob Cowing - His tenure with the 49ers has been uninspiring.
Ashtyn Davis - Secondary reserve, but got picked on when thrust into action against Washington.
Jaden Dugger - Run defense and overall athleticism have looked good.
Mike Evans - Next to Brock Purdy, the MVP of the offense.
Luke Farrell - Not a threat like Jake Tonges was as a backup tight end, but certainly a better blocker.
Viliami Fehoko Jr. - Versatile, but mainly a practice-squad D-line piece.
Luke Gifford - Solid special teamer despite being slowed down by a groin injury.
Kevin Givens - One of the longest-tenured 49ers now on the practice squad.
Jalen Graham - Developmental linebacker with limited playing time so far
Renardo Green - Three picks identify him as a defensive playmaker.
Dre Greenlaw - One/two linebacker punch with Warner has been very good, minus a suspension.
Gracen Halton - Seattle game was his breakout.
Romello Height - Has shown flashes, but needs more consistency.
Jordan James - Kickoff returner could be his path to more playing time, not at tailback.
Mac Jones - Two kneel-downs is his season so far.
Naquan Jones - Practice-squad backup with all the D-line injuries.
Kyle Juszczyk - Limited usage, but still valuable.
Khalid Kareem - Filled in for Bosa at defensive end, but produced little.
George Kittle - Best combo of receiver and blocker at tight end in the league.
Christian Kirk - Calf injury has significantly hindered his season.
Deommodore Lenoir - Dependable in the secondary, but not yet a playmaker.
Vederian Lowe - Swing tackle insurance policy
Christian McCaffrey - No longer a game breaker, but still reliable and productive.
Colton McKivitz - Model of consistency at right tackle.
Malik Mustapha - Developing a reputation as one of the league's hardest hitters in secondary.
Siran Neal - Special teams ace with two forced fumbles.
Osa Odighizuwa - Plenty of quarterback pressures but has struggled against the run.
Jarrett Patterson - Acquired in August; mainly a contingency plan at center/guard.
Eddy Pineiro - Last year: nearly automatic. This year: very problematic.
Dominick Puni - His Pass blocking has been excellent.
Brock Purdy - The Atlanta game was the only dud in a stellar season so far.
Ephesians Prysock - Chance to get on the field now as backup nickel after Jack Jones was cut.
Demarcus Robinson - The only trustworthy serious threat receiver before being placed on injured reserve.
Deebo Samuel - The gimmick plays and versatility were still there before the injury; it was just the volume.
Marques Sigle - Active and productive, but has missed the last three weeks.
De'Zhaun Stribling - Any impact he can make from December on would salvage his rookie season.
Upton Stout - Aside from his shoulder injury, his coverage needs to be tighter.
James Thompson Jr. - Has made the most of a limited opportunity so far.
Sebastian Valdez - Not a ton of defensive snaps, but he's been impactful as a backup.
Corliss Waitman - Statistically, the 49ers' best punter since Andy Lee.
Garret Wallow - The back of the linebacker depth chart.
Fred Warner - Defensively, his intensity and presence are everywhere.
Jordan Watkins - Slowly but surely getting more offensive snaps week to week.
Jon Weeks - No botched snaps means he's doing his job.
CJ West - Knee injury aside, his contributions have been minimal.
Keion White - His pass rushing has been a bright spot.
Mykel Williams - The return from his ACL injury has been encouraging.
Trent Williams - Still playing at an elite level, but four penalties are too many.
Brayden Willis - Like Siran Neal, has been rock solid as a special teams contributor.
Carver Willis - Feels like a redshirt rookie season, with the O-line intact.
