According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, San Francisco 49ers inside linebackers coach Clancy Pendergast will be leaving to become the defensive coordinator for USC.
According to an earlier report by the Los Angeles Daily News, Pendergast has resisted earlier courtships by the Trojans, but with the uncertainty surrounding the remaining 49ers coaching staff following the firing of head coach Jim Tomsula, he has decided to leave.
#49ers LB coach Clancy Pendergast will be the #USC defensive coordinator (again), source said.
Pendergast, who is 48, was USC's defensive coordinator in 2013 and joined the 49ers coaching staff following Tomsula's hiring. He has also been a defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and the California Golden Bears.
