The Official WZ FF Guillotine League (Starting 2025)

I've never done a Guillotine League before but I have commished leagues for over ten years, I am a competent and fun FF commissioner.
Guillotine Leagues are the next big thing in Fantasy Football, here is how it works. This sounds like a ton of fun and also insanity.

What is a Guillotine League? It's traditional fantasy football, with a twist (or two)...

  1. One team gets eliminated every week. That's right, the lowest scoring team of the week gets chopped. But that's not the only twist…
  2. Every player on the team eliminated becomes a free agent. Lowest scoring team Week 1 has Christian McCaffrey? Well now he's a free agent.
  3. Waiver mayhem ensues. A FAAB auction with high stakes.
  4. Manage your FAAB and strategize your bidding to ensure you are able to bid and win on star free agents from eliminated teams.
  5. Build a championship roster and win the best sweat in fantasy sports.

Unless we can garner some more interest, we can start next season.

Who would be interested? $10 buy-in, a modest and low-risk investment but an investment none the less.

  • Passing Yards .04 for each (1 for every 25 yards)
  • Passing Touchdowns 4 for each
  • Passing 2-Point Conversions 2 for each
  • Rushing Yards .1 for each (1 for every 10 yards)
  • Rushing Touchdowns 6 for each
  • Rushing 2-Point Conversions 2 for each
  • Receptions 1 for each
  • Receiving Yards .1 for each (1 for every 10 yards)
  • Receiving Touchdowns 6 for each
  • Receiving 2-Point Conversions 2 for each
  • Kickoff or Punt Return Touchdowns 6 for each
  • Fumble Recovery Touchdowns 6 for each
Lost Fumbles or Interceptions -2 for each

    RB
    RB
    WR
    WR
    TE
    Flex
    Flex

    Stat Corrections

Guillotine Leagues do not allow for the NFL's stat corrections (that occur on Thursdays) for the previous week's games. All weekly stats are considered final at the conclusion of the last game of the current week, typically after Monday Night Football.

    Tie Breakers

In the event of a scoring tie at any point in the season (including Week 1), the follow tie-breaking criteria will be used:
    1. The team with fewest year-to-date points is eliminated (excludes Week 1).
    2. If Step 1 does not break the tie, the team with the starting player who scored the fewest points is eliminated. In the event of a continuing tie, this methodology continues by comparing the second-lowest-scoring player, the third-lowest-scoring player, and so forth until ties are resolved.
    3. In the mind-bogglingly unlikely possibility that a tie still exists, we apply the above system to backup players, starting with a comparison of the lowest-scoring backup.

    FREE AGENT ACQUISITION

All free agents are acquired via blind bidding using your Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB). All owners begin the season with a $1,000 FAAB, and in order to acquire a player on waivers, a minimum bid of $0 must be placed. Remember, this is blind bidding, so the other owners in your league cannot see what you have bid on a player until after waivers have processed.

The three weekly blind bidding deadlines are on Wednesday and Thursdays at 3:00 PM ET, with a third and final weekly bidding deadline at 11:00 AM ET on Sunday. The blind bidding process is detailed further in the next section.

A player is awarded to the owner with the highest bid, and in the event of a tie for the highest bid, the player will be awarded to the owner with the lowest overall season-to-date point total.

When this tiebreaker is executed, the winning owner is moved to the end of the tiebreaker priority list for any other tiebreakers that may occur in that week. This ensures that other teams can win tiebreakers, not just the lowest-scoring team.

Players dropped during blind bidding periods can be acquired in the following bidding period.

    Blind Bidding Periods

Preseason (prior to Week 1) Blind Bidding: There will be three preseason blind bidding periods (that follow the same cadence of the regular season) which are Wednesday September 4 at 3:00 PM ET, Thursday September 5 at 3:00 PM ET, and Sunday September 8 at 11:00 AM ET.

In-Season Blind Bidding Periods: After Week 1 results are finalized, Week 2 begins. There are three weekly blind bidding periods, running from Week 2 through Week 17 of the NFL regular season. The weekly blind bidding deadlines are every Wednesday and Thursday at 3:00 PM ET. The third and final weekly bidding deadline is 11:00 AM ET on Sunday.

    First-Come-First-Served Acquisitions (Optional Setting)

Commissioners can choose to opt-in to first-come-first-served (FCFS) acquisitions for their league. Following each Wednesday's blind bidding period (the only bidding period of the week if FCFS is enabled), all remaining available free agents can be added on a FCFS basis up until a player's respective kick-off time for that week. FCFS opens at 7:00 PM ET. Once an available player's game kicks off, he is put on waivers until the next week's blind bidding period (on Wednesday). FCFS transactions are free, so even those with a $0 FAAB budget can still make FCFS transactions.

Players dropped during FCFS are eligible to be acquired in the same week if the setting is enabled by the commissioner.

*Please note: players on teams that are chopped after the conclusion of Week 14 (going into Week 15) will not be available in free agency (blind bidding or FCFS).

PLAYERS ACQUIRED AFTER GAMES ARE PLAYED

In very rare situations, a player may be added to a different NFL roster after his weekly game has already been played. In that situation, the player's production from the game IS used. An example of this is when Zach Ertz was traded to the Cardinals (in 2021) after he had played for the Eagles on Thursday night.

    FORFEITED GAMES

For the 2024 season, the NFL has threatened to institute a forfeit for teams that aren't healthy enough to play. If the NFL institutes a forfeit for any reason, no points will be awarded to players involved in that game. Hopefully, you will know about the forfeiture with enough time to make adjustments to your roster. Unfortunately, there may be scenarios, such as a last-minute forfeiture of a Monday night game, where you may not be able to make any roster changes. Even in that scenario, no points will be awarded to players involved in that game. You cannot elevate bench players who have already played to your starting roster.

    INJURED RESERVE

There are no designated roster spots for injured or suspended players.

    TRADES

Trading players may be allowed in private leagues, depending on the settings used by the commissioner.

    RESTRICTED STATES

Participants in private leagues are eligible to play in all 50 states and Canada.

I'd join. If the league starts week 2, does that mean you need 17 teams? Or the league just plays each week until there is 1 team left and that's the winner. Regardless of what week it is in the regular season.

I have never done a guillotine league before fwiw.

That sounds pretty sick

The more teams the better but I dont think there is a minimum number of teams. I think we could get at least 8 teams. The end of the season would depend on how many teams we would get. Hell, we could run it back for a second season on the back half!

Sounds cool, I'm in if this gets traction.

Dope dude, I appreciate it. I know, kinda late, I just thought I would throw it out there and see who would be down.
I'm in!

3 so far, not loving the odds of us getting a league but I am still down, starting in week 2 is not a big deal at all for a guillotine league. So if people are interested, lets get it going! I think 8 teams would be just fine as a trial run.

If some how we can drum up interest, I will leave the door open for this season.
I say we start one this season with 6-8 teams .

would have to start by week 8-10

could lower the buy in to $10 if people are unsure , which website supports this set up ?
