OK. So do we cut him and still lose a championship or do we work with him for the chance to win one. I would rather have "potential access" to a HOF caliber player than to have to play with a team cancer. "I would rather suit up 10 men and just get penalized all the way than to play with 11 when I know that that 1 person is not sold out to the team."
Definitely work with him. No way should we cut him, that would be foolish and it's exactly what 31 other teams want us to do. Just let him play out his contract, maybe even franchise him when his deal expires. We need to buy some time to decide if it's worth extending him or not.
Franchise him? He's going to be our Franchise Player? I'm laying my money down on the other side of that.
Don't read too much into the term "franchise". It's just a designation to keep a player on a 1-year deal, fully guaranteed. He's good enough that he can live up to the money. Right now it's far more risky to sign him long-term, and far more foolish to cut him.
