where did you get that report? Barrows report said " A statement from airport police reads: "At approximately 1400 hrs, a 24 year-old Aldon Jacarus Ramon Smith, a resident of San Jose, California, was going through Terminal 1 screening where he made a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb. Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him in the gate area where he became uncooperative."
LAX's terminals are essentially hallways with the entrance, security, and gates in that order. The reports are vague, here are the scenarios.
1. Aldon gets "randomly" selected and is agitated so he wisecracks "Are you going to search my bag further. There is a bomb in there" TSA don't find a bomb let him go and notify their superiors who send for the actually police to detain him.
2. Aldon becomes agitated after being "randomly searched" and told he can't get on the plane because he doesn't have his ID is released at this time he runs toward the gate. Police meet him to detain to him.
All of this happened very quickly per media reports. I won't debate semantics with you and I won't waste my time going back for the articles but as is the case with the ever evolving story it is clear that he said "I have a bomb" the timing is apparently your issue. That shouldn't be the issue, the issue is a star player's maturity and situational decision making skills.
Police haven't released all of the details. Think what you want, bottom line is this is on him, regardless of an airport's ability to police itself. That is like trying to justify a thief being caught and saying the store has faulty theft protection so it is their fault.
