Define shot? Outside of 1 game he didn't get targets in NFL football games that's for sure.
Cruz passed him and showed he's one of the best receivers in football. It's not like I'm trying to claim Barden is Vincent Jackson. He's a cheap option with potential. Considering all we can afford is a cheap option I don't think it's a bad move.

I get what you're saying, but he would have gotten more targets if he had more talent. That's a pass heavy offense.
I'm not against signing the guy. I just don't understand why so many want this guy vs any other WR out there with a similar history. Outside of Cal Poly connection & his height (which hasn't helped him so far).
It's almost as if they have 2 Pro Bowl receivers there.
Its almost as if he hasn't had every opportunity to get some catches. Where do you think Victor Cruz came from? Victor seized his opportunity when other WRs were hurt, Barden didn't.
I'd sign him if his price tag is small, and it should be.
The odds of hitting on a receiver late are no better. Hell our 1st rounder struck out.
Since when was it determined Jenkins "struck out"? Barden is a 4 year WR, that was a 3rd round pick with only 29 career catches. Kyle Williams had the same amount of had the same amount of catches and 8 less yards as our 4th WR in less games. And we aren't even considered a passing team.
I'm just not understanding everyone's fascination with this guy.

I meant he did nothing as a rookie. I wouldn't hold my breath on a 5th rounder producing this year. FTR Barden has spent most of his career as the 4th receiver as well. Manningham was in NY too.
He hasn't had every opportunity either. If you're not getting targets you're not getting opportunities. He's played behind some d*** good receivers. Not going to crucify him because he played behind Nicks. He played pretty well when Nicks went down didn't he. You're not going to get Calvin Johnson on a minimum salary.

Ditto- three year incentive laden contract with league minimum bases, little to no signing bonus, so yo can cut and walk away. Put in escalators to "pay the man" if he works out.
Barden was behind Nicks(1st round pick that year), Steve Smith(all pro year in 2009), Manningham, Dominek Hixon. Kind of hard to get reps when your playing behind a 1st round pick, a guy in the middle of an all pro year, a "reliable" 3 in Ham, and a 3 year veteran in Hixon. I dont blame him for not getting playing time in his first 2 years, especially with Kevin Boss as a reliable #1 TE also taking up passing targets.
I dont see how anyone can say Barden is overhyped, I've heard ZERO buzz on him since the season ended. I'd be up for signing him for a 3 year incentive heavy deal if it meant finding a Red zone threat, a long strider to stretch the field(has moderate speed in the 4.5 range).
