Jimmy Garoppolo-QB-EIU

Totally agree

We will never win a bidding war with the Browns, they are loaded with draft assets.

If your not willing to give up more than that then your not that interested in inquiring him.

I'm fine with giving a 2nd this yr and a conditional 2nd next yr...if the Browns want to give up 1st that's a different story.

Yes, me too.

But not our 1st

I wouldn't be opposed to a trade for Garoppolo as long as the price was reasonable.

Ditto

But I feel NE will think they have us over a barrel and make the price very painful

That's why you have to set your own price on him -- like the Broncos did with Kaepernick.

The Niners need to decide by themselves what they're willing to give up, not what the Patriots tell them is necessary.

Well ya lol...it's sales man you always start high. I'd tell everyone that wants any of our players it's gonna take a 1st then wait for their counter.

You think what NE got for Collins and Chandler were what they originally asked for?

His point was about what's "reasonable". I'm saying that only the Niners can decide what is reasonable for them. If they think his value is a 3rd rounder, then that's what you do. If they think it's something else, then they roll with that. Point is, it doesn't matter if the Patriots "think they have us over a barrel" because we have many options available to us to get a QB.

But not our 1st

Unfortunately, the Browns could easily nab him with their second 1st round pick from the Eagles.

Wow, that would be pretty insane. I have a hard time imagining any front office, including the Browns, would value a QB who has started only 2 (?) games with a top 10 pick.

Which would be really stupid...so yeah a true Cleveland Browns move.

WHY would the be a stupid move?

if you like a QB that much, and you've been trying to find one for the last 15 years, then why not?

The Browns have drafted QBs much higher than where that Eagles' 1st is slotted at the moment.. If you feel like he's the guy, then by all means, go get him..

Hell, if this coaching staff could not find a QB and can't win, they're gonna get fired anyways, so why not try to win with a QB that you feel like it can get you there..

Because giving up a high 1st rounder for a guy with 1.5 career starts playing in a QB friendly offense and about to be due a huge new contract is patently stupid.
It would take at least a 2nd round pick and next years 2nd to land Jimmy G. The Patriots aren't stupid and can probably get more.

If there crazy enough to give up a top 10 pick have at it... I highly doubt the analytic crew would do that.
the thing about adding Jimmy over a rookie would be the contract thing as well... if you draft a 1st rd. quarterback you have him for 5 years at that rookie wage scale thus making it easier to build a contending type of roster..If you add Jimmy your probably going to have to sign him to big money right out of the gate

Yup.

Technically it would only be stupid if it doesn't work out :)

If he turns into another Tom Brady or a Drew Brees it will be considered a steal. If he turns into Matt Cassel or Brock Osweiler it will be incredibly stupid.

Considering it's Cleveland I'd lean towards the latter. Hopefully for Jimmy he doesn't wind up there.
