All of training camp to prepare for 4 games, only lasted 2. Now pats spreading rumors to try to get the first or 2nd overall pick for him lol. Pats are more interested in keeping brisset then jg

Let them spread rumors, when the rubber meets the road we've seen what value they have been able to get in exchange for Pro Bowl caliber players and it wasnt much.

Perhaps the thing that hurts Garoppolos value the most is that you have to give him a hefty new deal soon after trading for him whereas if you draft a QB you get them for 4-5 years at a reasonable salary.

I say the better value is in the draft and FA. we don't need to trade picks away right now, especially our first round pick

I'll guess Cleveland is thinking the same thing. If they were to acquire Garoppolo they are definitely free to take Garrett and not have to worry about what QBs may or may not be available.

Imagine them walking out with Garoppolo, Garrett and Fournette or Dalvin Cook.

Doubtful. Their FO is now being run by money ball guys, and they have to be salivating over the kind of roster you can build with a starting QB on a rookie deal.

This X 2. I say draft Garapolo if he can be had for two seconds, I have said this going back a year now. Trade down with the 1st round pick or pray Garret drops

Who's trading a 1st rounder? If they traded for Garoppolo it'd be for a second rounder at most + potentially a conditional pick down the road.

If they make it out of the first 2 rounds with Myles Garrett+Jimmy Garoppolo they will have substantially improved the roster.

That depends if Jimmy is good and can stay healthy. Obviously Garrett is a fine choice either way. With Jimmy you got to pay him too so he could set the franchise back 3 years.

No one's trading our 1st round pick for Jimmy Garoppolo. He's great value for us with our 2nd round pick, though. Again, how great would it be to have the option to either pick Garrett or trade back for the bounty the right to pick the 1st QB in the draft is worth, without having to worry about what either of those picks does to your ability to secure the future at QB? If we can swing it for an Alex Smith trade or less, it's a huge strategic coup. It would essentially remove the Browns from the draft's driver's seat and promptly install the 49ers there.
There are a lot of good points on this thread so far. I just want to point out that according to overthecap.com we currently have 45 mil in cap space, and if we cut kaepernick we will recoup close to 20 mil in a cap hit from next year. So, paying Jimmy G a huge deal over the next 3-4 years will have little impact on the 49ers ability to sign free agents and/or extend their own guys. This is especially true because guys like Staley and brooks may also come off the books soon as well. We have so much cap space that we can just give Jimmy Kaep's money and still sign 3 tier 1 free agents.

Also, free agents will be more likely to sign with the 49ers if they believe there is a real qb here versus a rookie. Even those whose primary concern is getting paid as much as possible still may not want to come to a team that is likely to win 1-4 games next year. However fading for Jim G will create enthusiasm and hope.

So, pull the trigger and get Jimmy. The guy made real throws under pressure, with poise, and accurately in the NFL. I'll take that over any of the prospects.
For the people on the Mike Glennon bandwagon

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports impending free agent Mike Glennon "could fetch" $13-15 million per year on his next contract.

Glennon has made 18 career starts across four seasons, but has attempted just 11 passes in mop-up duty since the Bucs took Jameis Winston No. 1 overall in 2015. Across his 21 appearances, Glennon has completed 374-of-630 passes (59.4 percent) for 4,100 yards (6.5 YPA) and a 30:15 TD:INT mark. He's certainly held his own when under center and will probably be the top free agent passer on the market in March, along with Jay Cutler, assuming Cutler gets cut. The $13-15 million per year would put Glennon in the Ryan Fitzpatrick/Colin Kaepernick range of quarterback salary. It would be a fair number. Glennon just turned 27.
I'm all for taking Garrett at #2 if hes there and trading for Garoppolo

Yeah don't rely on overthecap for anything. 49ers cap space with carryover is actually somewhere north of $70 million according to Joel Corry, a former NFL agent and that is after the McDonald and Armstrong extensions. If they get rid of Kaepernick it would jump over $85 million.

I'm all in with Jimmy and (2) 2nd's if need be. But I'd like to use one of our 3rd's (believe we have comp pick too) and grab a prospect to increase our chances. If MLB is addressed in FA and we get Garrett we can afford to draft another QB to develop in case Jimmy doesn't look great

I'd give them a 3rd and a 7th for him.
this is some high-level NFL quarterbacking. Great composure. Notice the quick and coordinated feet. he goes from moving in a busy pocket to a throwing motion in the blink of an eye. love how tight and efficient his throwing motion is. ball just zips out. Would not hesitate to give the pats our 2nd and a 2018 conditional pick.

Mike Glennon isn't getting you anywhere that you want to go, great QB to have if your goal is multiple 8-8 seasons.
