That's a dumb question. They have Tom Brady why would they be spending high picks on a QB to develop into a starter? They just did with Jimmy G and they will get what they can in a trade. But yes by all means let's take a QB in Watson who stares down his receivers and doesn't read defenses very well yet. Maybe he can grow a Afro and kneel during the national anthem for us.

I'm with ya on JG but I think Watson can read a defense and the whole stares down a WR is kinda overblown

Here's a nice article

I'll be watching Watson in the playoffs I'm more than willing to change my opinion but right now I don't have a high opinion of him. If he does well in the playoffs I will reevaluate :)

"How many Tedford QBs have worked out in the NFL???? But by all means go ahead and use a 1st rounder on Aaron Rodgers."

I agree draft a qb instead of taking someone else's backup.

Nothing wrong with taking someone elses backup if they have the talent and upside for what you want to do. Plenty of backups have gone on to be pretty good NFL starters in their own right.

If Garoppolo could even be a Matt Schaub type that would be a huge boost from what the 49ers have had at QB.

I just dont think the logic that because Kevin O'Connell, Ryan Mallett and Matt Cassel all sucked it automtically means Garoppolo will too holds any water at all.
Bill Walsh is stoopid. Why would we trade for Steve Young when we have Joe. For god's sake he plays for Tampa. Farve and Mark Brunel were backups also. Looong list if I were to think about it.

Oh boy, you're gonna get it now. You're expressing an opinion that runs counter to the going consensus around here, one that won't allow this team to draft on the defense with our first pick for the 5th year in a row (OLB Myles Garrett).

It kind of sort of worked with Matt Schaub other than that it's pretty bad track record. Not just NE you have the Kolb, Flynn and the latest Osweiler.

You're looking at a very small window of games playing with a loaded team in a stable environment. Then the kicker is having to pay him 50 mil. There's the same amount of risks with a rookie but at least they're not going to effect your cap.

Rich Gannon, Matt Hasselbeck, both guys ended up going to the SB with their new teams. If Garoppolo was coming out in this draft, I could see him going somewhere in the 1st round with the skillset he possesses. Good instincts and awareness, very quick release, good accuracy, enough athleticism to get out and run, he's a nice fit for a Kelly offense or a WCO offense where accuracy, precision and mobility are required.

The downside is that you're going to have to give him a big contract, the upside is that he's had a few years under his belt working with an excellent coaching staff, he's arguably a lot more starter ready than any of the QB's coming out in this draft, none who ideally should be starting on Day 1.

Rich Gannon was a journeyman qb. What was it year 8 before he broke out? That's as likely as finding Kurt Warner from your local grocery market. Occasionally you have the Brady's coming out of round 6 or Garcia coming out of CFL but that's not ever a plan.

Hassleback is a fine example and someone I overlooked. I'll give you him. It's still very low percentage and giving up a lot of resources. He wouldn't be a 1st rounder ever. Small school, average frame. He's always going to have the knock if he can take the NFL beating and that's still a big mystery with him.

just like a little context as to why he compares to guys like Cassel and Hoyer that's all?...So we shouldn't have traded for Rogers who was a backup for 3 yrs?

I think it's just silly and kinda lazy to throw them all in the same realm because he plays on the same team as two other QBs that didn't have half the talent as him....

why does Matt Flynn get thrown into the mix he was a 7th rd pick for a reason Kolb got concussed beyond belief dude just couldn't stay healthy. If you're gonna compare backups and if they became good starters how about you look at guys who got picked as high as he did not 7th rd picks and UDFAs?

What loaded team did JG have? He didn't have Gronk and the only pro-bowlers on NE this yr is Brady, Hightower, McCourty and some ST guy.

We got a ton of money and if there's one position I'm cool with overspending on it's QB...we could always FA tag him in 2018 and 2019 if we wanted to.
