Jimmy Garoppolo-QB-EIU

If they give him up for less than a 1st round pick, yes.

This is why it's so hard to imagine them pulling a trade off for Garopollo. I could see several teams offering 2nd round picks for him, but teams will be wary of offering more than that given the Patriots know way more about him than anyone else does and have a history of trading players at the right time. If the Patriots like him, they may be stuck keeping him and Brady on the roster. If they don't, they'll probably be stuck getting a 2nd round pick in return and whichever team trades for him gets a decent starting QB which is still valuable, but not a franchise QB.

I've said this before, but I only see a trade happening if the Patriots are not convinced Jimmy is a franchise QB for the next 10 years and another team needs a decent QB to make them a contender. If another situation happens like we saw in Minnesota when Bridgewater went out, Jimmy Garopollo will be in demand. I don't see the 49ers offering their 2nd round pick knowing that if the Patriots accept that trade, it's because they don't like Jimmy as a long term franchise QB. A mediocre starting QB ultimately does nothing for us - it may make us a 7-9 team, but this team needs to find a franchise QB because the rest of our roster is terrible.

I mean I've brought up why he's not the same many times

All I'm asking for why they are the same qb

Comparing two QBs in similar situations who both played for Bill Belichick & Josh McDaniels is not some crazy far out there idea.

Tell that to Jaime Collins.

The patriots defense has improved since they traded away Collins. Belichick has traded away talented players his entire tenure, and the machine just keeps on rolling. This is what happens when you have elite coaching and clear system in place.

it is if you watch and evaluate their tape. they're nothing alike except for the uniform they shared.

Then why not trade The 40 year old QB? They probably could get a 1st for him too. Or is Garropolo not good enough to "keep the machine rolling?"
Why the hell would you trade one of the greatest of all time who is still the best QB in the game? Belichick and Brady will likely ride off into the sunset together in the next couple years.

You wouldn't. Unless you have another franchise QB on the roster. I.e. Rodgers, Luck, or Young. If you have a Cassell or a Grbac on your team, you get what you can for them and stick with the 40 year old.

Because that's what the Patriots do - they trade players right before they decline. Brady is going to decline fast - it may not happen next year, but he isn't going to be playing at 45. In a year or two he may only be an average NFL starter as opposed to a top 5 QB in the league. If the Patriots think Garopollo is already an average NFL starter and could get a nice return for Brady, they'd pull the trigger.

I can't imagine any team giving up a 1st round pick for Brady though. You don't bring in a 40 year old QB and have him learn a new offense while mortgaging the future. Brady is more valuable to the Patriots than anyone else.

Yeah, no.

Yeah, no.

I could see a team that was stacked at all other positions and ready to win now; i.e. three year window, trade a late first for him. Like, ahem, the 2012 49ers?

Not for a 40 year old QB, not happening. Like EC said, he has far more value to the Patriots than he does to any other team.
If we get Garrett, we should send a conditional 2018 1st to NE. Save our high picks this year.

Your probably right. Maybe more like a 2nd, but no worse than a 3rd.

They aren't the same qb though...like I said one was a 7th rd draft pick who was a backup all through college and the other was a 4yr starter and a 2nd rd pick.

Other than the fact they played under the same system and are white there aren't many similarities...it lazy and silly to assume they are the same even if you were going just off college film.

That's like comparing Flynn to Rogers

You don't think we will have a high first in 2018? Give them a 2nd this yr and a conditional 2nd in 2018, if they want more tell them good luck.
