Jimmy Garoppolo-QB-EIU

As soon as possible probably isn't the right phrase, but if the Patriots love Garapollo, I think they'll try to convince Brady to retire or consider trading him to another team. If Garapollo is better than Brady in 2017, does Brady sit on the bench or do the Patriots try to get something in return for him?

I think the Patriots will make up their mind on Garoppolo, one way or the other this offseason, either opt to keep him long term or get the maximum amount of compensation back for him when they are in the best position to do so.

I do too - they won't share these with anyone, but I'm sure they have their own projections for Brady and Garopollo going forward. If they think Garapollo will catch him in the near future, they're likely to keep him. If not, they may try to get the maximum compensation for him even if it's just a 2nd round pick.

If they make up their mind and decide to keep Garapollo and he does end up surpassing Brady, it will be interesting to see what happens and whether they try to offload Brady.

If we're sure Garrett is gone, might as well give our #1 for Jimmy G. He's a better prospect than the qbs in the draft, by FAR
Debatable and still have to factor in contract status. Rookie qb will be on a rookie deal while jimmy g requires a monster contract. Mike glennon is interesting as a free agent if chip is gone.

That's fair. So you think under different circumstances, Young, Rodgers, and Luck would have been traded, or do their teams teams do what ever it takes to keep them both until the circumstances are right to get rid of the 40 year old HOFamer?

Different situations imo.

Luck was drafted after Manning was already hurt but he was a rare type of prospect. You have to draft him if you don't have a proven stud and Manning was old and had injury concerns then.

Favre was old and threatening retirement every offseason.

Young yes. I think if Joe was healthy and playing as well as he used to/the way Brady is playing we'd trade Young.

Pats should try to win as many as they can now. Garopplo may look awesome in practice and be a stud in the film room, etc but he's not Tom Brady and he hasn't proven anything in the playoffs the way Tom has.

Smart move is to trade him to improve the team for Tom and hope Jacoby can be your QB of the future.

This is true. If Montana was fully healthy and looked like he could go 6 years in 92/93 the way Brady does, we definitely would've gone for that rumored trade with Kansas City that would've brought us Derrick Thomas.

Great perspective and I did not consider that initially.

Pure stop gap. I see no chance for longterm of even short term success with Glennon.

Signing Glennon says "our long term goal is 7-9 every year."

Yeah no....

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports impending free agent Mike Glennon "could fetch" $13-15 million per year on his next contract.

Jesus sales bro....you don't sell the farm if they aren't asking for it.

They got rid of jones for a low 2nd and Collins for a comp 3rd.

Offer them our #34th overall pick and a conditional pick in 2018 based on play.

If they want a 1st good luck see ya later.
I live in NE and have seen Jimmy play a lot in the preseason too, the guy is legit. His throwing motion is compact and quick, and his downfield accuracy is very good. He's more of a poor man's Rodgers or a young Romo than a young Brady, but he hasn't really ever looked anything other than above average since he's been in the NFL. His biggest issue is that his timing in the pocket isn't great (still much better than Kaep's), but that was an issue he had before going into this season, and he looked good/great in that regard against Arizona and Miami.

With a guy like Cassel he had downfield accuracy issues that were really only hidden because of how difficult it is to lose when throwing to prime Moss deep. Ryan Mallet was never good, Brian Hoyer was ok, but clearly didn't have a starters skillset. Jimmy is different.

I'd certainly take him over any QB in this class, however I think given how the Patriots have traded away Collins and Jones, it's possible they could be angling to trade Brady after 2017 and franchising Jimmy.

I just can't see them trading Brady.

Given how high our 3rd round pick may be (could be #1 in the round), that pick plus a conditional 2018 3rd round pick that can move to a 2nd (if Niners win 5+ games) would be more than fair.
