Ben Volin of the Boston Globe believes the Patriots can expect a second-round pick in return for Jimmy
Garoppolo
With Tom Brady still at the height of his powers, the Patriots will be looking to trade Garoppolo as he enters the last year of his contract. Volin notes that Matt Cassel, Kevin Kolb, Matt Schaub were traded under similar circumstances and all fetched second-round picks. The Bears, Browns and 49ers have already been linked to Garoppolo and more teams could enter the fray as the offseason rolls on. It's hard to say where Garoppolo will land, but it looks like he's played his last down as a Patriot. Feb 12 - 9:29 AM

I believe, though I could be wrong the the Pat's run a 3-4 base defense. If the Niners change to a 4-3 base defense like has been speculated, they should trade AA and their 2nd round pick for Garoppolo. Then draft Solomon Thomas with their first pick of the draft.

If they can grab him for a 2nd and a conditional pick next year I'd be all for it. Then trade down if someone is willing and recoup those picks, then draft Corey Davis or Mike Williams. That would be my dream draft

If it's the 2nd rounder then it might come down to the Pats not wanting to help a division opponent. 2nd rounder and ????

I mean that leaves the Bears and 49ers and our 2nd is higher...throw them a mid-rd pick or a conditional pick next yr (based on play).

This feels like the fair value to me.
Yeah, that might be what it takes, our second is a like a late first. I think its the number of pick as well, the Pats are looking to reload for Tom's last few years. We may have to toss in one more late rounder this year to get it done. I'd like this move, along with the signing of Shcuab (SP). We should look edge rusher first round pick, then add in this order, a WR (3rd), QB (4th), MLB (6th), FB (7th)
Then fill the rest of our needs in FA.

So much more realistic than people talking about an early 1st rounder.

If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. There is no way Garropolo goes for only 1 second round pick. Mark my words, I will eat crow, but it will take at least a second and a third or a second in the following draft.
I doubt New England would go for this as they always value second round picks because of rookie wage scale, but I would love to swap first round picks for Garropolo. They get pick two, the niners get pick 32. We then get our QB and picks 32 and 34, a plus plus for a team that needs everything under the sun.

No, it will take 3-5 picks to get him, but they can be spread out, and later round picks. I think a 2nd, and 5th this year and a conditional next year. The Pats want to run up their Super Bowl scoreboard before Brady retires 2-3 years from now. SO they need a number of picks to reload for next season. I think a 3 pick package, would more attractive to them than the first of second overall pick.

Is this a joke? The 1st or 2nd overall pick is worth 3-4x as much as those 3 pick packages you proposed based on the trade value chart. They could trade down from #1 or #2 if they wanted to, end up with a mid-first round pick and several 2nd-3rd round picks instead of a 2nd and 5th round pick.
The first and second overall picks are worth way more than Garapollo is worth in a trade which is why there's discussion about a package of picks.
Also, your logic about the Patriots wanting a number of picks because they have a closing championship window doesn't make a lot of sense. They don't have a lot of needs and they can very easily attract free agents to fill those needs. They need 1-2 impact players in the draft who can help them right away rather than some 4th and 5th round picks to try to develop. Rebuilding teams (like us) can use more picks, because we have more spots to play rookies and more time to develop them than a team with a closing championship window.

I can't remember if I said it was for Cousins or Garoppolo but my speculation was going off NE wanting a 1st and 3rd. I also was speculating off reports on how Cleveland would be in play and how a bidding war involving their #12 and the only way to top that would be to offer the #2. Shoot I would love to be wrong and get Garoppolo for two 2nd round picks or whatever and still be in position to take Garrett or trade down and take Mike Williams or Corey Davis.

I like the talent hanging around 25-32 opposed to 2-10 this year. It's a sh draft for us and that's why I wouldn't mind a swap of picks with NE for Jimmy. If Garrett is off the board and we have to make a pick (a trade being available is not a guarantee) who do you take? There's a DT we don't need, some rb's we don't need, some secondary players we don't need, and the top receiver is nothing special. It's a crap draft for us past Garrett and maybe Mitch pending how you feel about him
I like pick #33 better than #2 this year.

I don't follow this at all lol
Also how do we not need secondary players?
We can't even be certain who our #1 corner is, and we don't need secondary help?
