DB Dontae Johnson North Carolina State

I wish our dbs would be DJ and ward as starters with Brock being a backup and if rashad Robinson improves he can push one of them down the depth chart. We are in a good situation db wise going forward.

Dammit it still pisses me off Aldon smith is such a f**k up. Our d would be so good with him if he kept his head on straight.

Gotta hope Eli Harold pans out and we got lucky getting Lynch in the 6th rd.

Johnson is not going to get cut, he will make the team if healthy. If his injury is serious, we'll just put him on IR. If for some reason he's borderline making the roster, there would be teams willing to trade for him.

The fact that we drafted 3 CB's could me his days are numbered.

Why would we cut own best man cover CB?

Redmond will be on IR. Rashard Robinson will make the team but he is very raw and will likely be inactive most of the year. The Prince Charles kid will be on the PS. If Dontae Johnson is and stays healthy, he will be on the football team.

Everything I've heard is Redmond ready for TC.

Redmond is expected to play this season. At worst, he starts the season on the NFI list and is activated sometime around mid-season.

IMHO he's our best man corner. I believe guys like Acker and Brock are best in zone. Johnson is a player you can play in jam press like Megatron and just go at it. His height, length and physicality forces the WR to play his game. This is why O'Neil wants long press CB's outside in Dontae, Robinson, now Ward (physical), etc.

His length is a little overrated. His height certainly helps on jump balls but his arm length is pretty average for the position (31 1/2") and he has really small hands. I like him in man more than zone, but we don't have a true #1 man corner. Johnson isn't someone you can put out on an island against quicker receivers.

Good point about his length.

As to the second, we just don't know that yet because of previous coaching personnel choices and scheme fits. Under Mangini and Fangio, they both wanted zone CB's. Now O'Neil wants man press.

For all we know DJ is that type of CB (just miscast)...he certainly shut down Megatron and Atlanta when given a chance (Cromartie too).

With the range of Ward, Reid and Bethea, they won't always be out on an island, just in certain designs where we're bringing heat. But the better we can play man outside with DJ, Robinson and Ward, the more exotic O'Neil can be in the middle of the field with Tartt, Reaser, Redmond, Bethea, Reid, Bowman & Hodges and with the pass rush.

Didn't Harbaugh have like a boatload of CBS on the roster in case of injuries?

Is his injury updated?

Great news.

CB Dontae Johnson did not practice today, per Branch. However, the good news is that he was not wearing a brace so his injury is not believed to be serious. Johnson went down at the end of last Thursday's practice with an apparent left knee/leg injury.
