i do not get why they do not try for fuller... we need a vet who is good back there and we need an elite rookie

I'd actually have to go back and look to see who our corners were against Baltimore at this point. I'm sure the safeties were Whitner and maybe Bethea?
We actually had a better secondary against KC than we did against Baltimore though. Richard Sherman, albeit an older, slower, slightly more broken down Richard Sherman. Moseley was probably as good or better than who we had back there at corner in the Baltimore game.
Our guys wouldn't be the first or last to be burned by Tyreek Hill. Or even probably Sammy Watkins to a lesser extent who's been a good WR.
Still starts with the d-line, imo. Pass rush even just in terms of hurries and pressures aid the secondary and you still have to slow down the run game as well. I was just reading the offensive line thread and saw NC's post showing the drawing of Brady basically standing still for almost every pass attempt and Mahomes running this way and that before every pass attempt out of the gun.
If we would have gotten the consistent pressure on Mahomes that we did on Cousins we would have #6. As for why we didn't late, call it what you will or prefer. Blatant holding that was uncalled or a gassed worn down line- or a combo thereof.

IIRC We had Rogers and Culliver, and Culliver had just gotten into a bunch of trouble in the preceding weeks because of an insensitive tweet or some b******t like that, so we had either Tremaine Brock or Terrell Brown start for him. Safties were Whitner and Goldson. IMO we had a far superior Defensive backfield in that Super Bowl, and if not for the injuries to JSmith and ASmith we would have had a comparible pass rush.

I completely disagree. The two safeties were not good in coverage at all. Los and Brown were good, but Culliver got torched by Jacoby Jones badly.
I'll take a defensive backfield that contained Mahomes for a huge part of the game with Hill and Kelce than one who gave up 300 yards and 3 TDs to Flacco with Boldin Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones

That 2012 defense completely forgot how to football the moment Justin hurt his triceps. Rogers, Brown and Culliver got absolutely shredded by Brees in 2011 and Flacco in 2012. Dishonorable mention for Rogers giving up 140+ yards to Victor Salsa b***h Cruz in the first half of the 2011 NFCCG.
I loved those defenses, but the secondary was nowhere near as good as the 2019 squad.

So much this. That defensive front 7 was legendary, but as you say Justin Smith really was the glue that held it together and the secondary was exposed when he got hurt and wasn't 100%
