He's just the kind of guy you need at the tail in of your roster. A guy that can play outside and slot in a pinch. Not a guy you want starting multiple weeks.
and let's be real, he is pretty much camp fodder unless they don't draft a corner.

I'm seriously trying to understand the logic behind these free agency moves thus far. Mind boggling
Is called they are pinching very dollar since the barely can sign players to league minimum since we can't touch that $25 mill till you know who gets traded. This will come back N bite us in the ass later on in the Season. 🤦🏻♂️

Ok now this is just homer talk seriously. I don't give a rats ass if he can play every single position in the secondary, this dude is horrible. Maybe he's a good practice guy but he sucks ass in games. Time to stop fu**ing around with the secondary with scrubs like this, if we're looking at depth then play Ambry Thomas or Demmodore Lenoir. They both can't be as bad as Johnson.

He's gonna get cut in TC. Resigned for the preseason. Cut again at the start of the season. Resigned again in week 3. And it's gonna be like this for another 5 years at least.

He'll probably become the Defensive backs coach too once he's retired. A niner for life.

Then gets fired, re-hired to be the TE coach. Fired again. All of a sudden he becomes our DC when Ryan's leaves.

Got one QB they can't trade away and one CB that won't go away.

Dontae Johnson is an average CB (PFF rating) in the league. The best WRs will burn him and the average guys will beat him once in a while. He isn't terrible. He is just the kind of guy you have on your team until someone better beats him out. In the meantime, he is a good special team player. So, you bring him back on a budget deal.

How is that homer talk? He is strictly a depth piece who can play multiple positions. Thats a fact and guys like that are valuable to teams when filling out the roster on game days. You guys act like teams have pro bowlers on the bench just waiting to be called up.
He's literally our 5th corner right now and we havent even got to the draft yet.

No matter the position, he does more bad than good on the field. Again I wouldn't call him camp fodder especially when we keep seeing this guy find his way back onto the roster time and time again. Why the hell do they draft two CB's if they're just gonna keep playing this guy over rookies who showed more promise like Lenoir??
This is why I'm suddenly frustrated with this off season, I knew it would be the same guys back. John Lynch is really taking his saying "we like our guys" to heart. My god we can't go out and find another cheap CB out there who might possibly turn out to be a gem??

People say that but I cannot remember a single time he's made a play on ST. And he's been here for what seems like 10 years.

I agree I would rather gamble with Verrett because when the dude is healthy he's a difference maker. Sign him to a 1 year incentive deal. Nothing to lose, but bringing back DoneTrash Johnson will come back N bite them in the ass. I can see him in the playoffs giving up the game winning TD.
49ers eliminated because of one man's inability to cover his man 🤦🏻♂️
