That's what I have been interested in.
What points to the confidence level?

The confidence level of "its anyone but Baalke". That seems to be a theme on here.

All you have to do us ask one of the badgers, who they would replace him with, why, what's that person's record, and if he would actually be available and wait for the thundering silence.

He needs to step his backstabbing game up and begin the mutiny from within faster. All hope in Niner land is waning and we need you now more than ever Tom.

Nick Caserio or Eliot Wolf would be a breath of fresh air. Caserio has been director of player personnel for the Pats for 8 years now and that team is always competing for a Super Bowl. Wolf has been with the Packers in an AD of personnel in some way shape or form since 2008 and they've had the highest amount of drafted players make their team for awhile now.

It's hard to truly evaluate his success/failure in PHI as we don't know what specific influence he had or decision making powers.
But briefly, here's what was good and bad about his decisions:
2013 - 10-6 record; lost in 1st round of playoffs
Overall: B - hit on early round picks, 1 FA pickup, and inherited a solid group already. Vick and Foles at QB. Foles had a monster season and made pro bowl.
Good: Lane Johnson (1st rd), Zach Ertz (2nd rd), Bennie Logan (3rd rd), Connor Barwin (FA from TX)
Bad: Matt Barkley - never panned out, Isaac Sopoaga was a big FA bust, mid/late round picks and other trades/FA signings didn't pan out.
2014 - 10-6 record; no playoffs
Overall: C- - Acquired in FA, draft, and trades limited but good talent, however the collapse of QB play and release for Jackson led to the FO blow up that occurred.
Good: Malcolm Jenkins signing, Sproles trade, resigned Maclin, Parkey set a record, and Matthews had a solid rookie outing.
Bad: Awful draft outside of Matthews including 1st round bust Marcus Smith, 50/50 on trades, demise of Foles and Sanchez...
--
It's hard to fully evaluate as Chip had HUGE influence on these decisions. However, because both of them are now part of this team, it's not pretty as a picture as you might expect.
Yeah sure fire Baalke because of the ACL busts and draft misses, but I wouldn't be confident Gamble could do a ton better based on the limited tenure he had with PHI. And also, he was involved in some of our bad drafts, too.
If we fire Baalke, I hope we go external and not from within. It would be more of the same.

Wolf has the Packers GM job in the bag, why would he leave? The feeling is that they would be willing to push Thompson out to keep him.
Why is Caserio anymore impressive than Scott Pioli who has been pretty meh? Belichick is and has been the brain trust there.
Anyone that comes to the 49ers to be a GM, does with the knowledge that they will work under the boy wonder and with guys like Marathe and others influencing the process.
If Baalke were to be let go, Gamble is the next GM, period.

Thanks! First time anyone has responded with any realistic names. I have asked this several times to the Baalke must go crowd. I would be more than happy to see Baalke replaced personally. But to just scream out stupid stuff with no real idea of what do if he is gone irks me. The problem I have is believing Jed will do any better if he fires Baalke. He could do the equivalent of Tomsula.Originally posted by itlynstalyn:Originally posted by mojave45:All you have to do us ask one of the badgers, who they would replace him with, why, what's that person's record, and if he would actually be available and wait for the thundering silence.
