Tom Gamble, former Assistant GM

The top hot commodity candidates are just as likely to fail. Somebody is going to take the gig but the job is not going to be anymore appealing if Chip tanks it 3 years straight. Our mistake was promoting unqualified position coaches and we did that twice.

I don't expect York to dump Kelly and pay 3 coaches but if Chip wants to go back to college he's got my thumbs up.

Who do you want then?! Shaw is a good coach.

Give Kelly time and the players to be able to fully run his system. By that time if it hasnt worked out, Tom Herman and his Midas touch should be good and seasoned.

You wouldnt even need to change personnel.

Lol right...wouldn't be surprised if he bounced to LSU.

yeah if we really wanted him, we wouldnt of let him leave to cleveland. Baalke was probably MEH on him and considered him a backup plan

Didn't he want personnel control? I don't want to give that to any coach.

Who'd we promote this yr that was a position coach? Modkins isn't really the OC chip is. O'Neil while I'm not a fan has experience as a DC and learned under Pettine and Rex so I can see the intrigue.

Chip will and should get time to produce, first things first he a needs "his" QB that can run his offense nothing is gonna change with Blaine behind center this season.

I'd exspect any job to be more appealing if there isn't a s**t ton of turnaround...no one wants to go to a job that has this much (if chip is let go to soon).

He might have but he doesn't have it in Cleveland currently so who knows...

Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam skipped the NFL's Los Angeles relocation vote on Tuesday to lure Jackson, his No. 1 target in the coaching search. Jackson was also a candidate for the 49ers and Giants, but the Browns offered "significant personnel control," NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

How about someone from the outside rather than another uninspired onternal promotion? Promoting Gamble would be similar to pronoting Tomsula. Why not make real change and bring in new blood?

They committed to Baalke and Kelly so they should see if it works but when they get rid of Trent they should start fresh.

I am not going to name names, the FO should have connections in the league to come up with a candidate pool or they should be able to hire a consultant who can do that for them.
Gamble has been a part of the FOP team along with Marathe and Jed since 2005, minus the two years he was with the Eagles before getting fired. Gamble is the Tomsula of GM candidates.
How will it look if the 49ers fire their GM after giving him the stamp of approval in January?
I am not suggesting that anyone should be fired.

LOL - now the Trentgoat isn't good enough, doubts about Gamble?

Well who then?

Complete speculation. I'll just leave it at that - there's absolutely no basis for this argument other than he's already with the team. I get it some people want a complete clean of house but that's just not likely.

There is no basis for the argument that when the 49ers move on from Baalke they should start fresh with someone from outside the organization?

Gamble is known around the league as Baalke Jr.

Right...4 games into the season and we want to fire chip and replace him with who? Realsiticlly who would want to come work for this FO if we are firing someone every yr.

Who suggested that they fire Chip?
Intrigued a bit by a gamble promotion. Hopefully his last name fits his philosophy a little bit

I know people won't be too excited at an internal hire but him and Kelly are good buddies and could possibly have good communications when it comes to drafting and free agents.

Oh I'm sure he has more control than he would in SF I don't think he has full control though
Let's take a gamble on Gamble, promote this man! Axe Baalke
